About this example

This example is the quote a freight broker sends a home goods company shipping three loads from its Kansas City warehouse: a full truckload of 24 pallets to a distribution centre near Chicago, and two less-than-truckload shipments to retailers in Denver and Nashville, with all-risk cargo insurance on the full value.

Freight quotes are compared line by line, and the surprises come from what is left out. This one lists every shipment with pallets, weight, freight class and pickup date, and warns that carriers reweigh and reclass. A lane map and a table give the carrier type, transit time, delivery date and tracking for each shipment. Rates are itemized per shipment with linehaul, fuel surcharge and the accessorials requested, and a separate table lists the accessorial charges that apply only if they happen, such as detention or redelivery. A shipping checklist, the broker's key numbers, terms on rate validity, liability, claims and payment, and a booking block complete it.

Who it is for

Freight brokers, 3PLs and carriers that quote FTL and LTL shipments and want to avoid disputes over fuel, accessorials and liability.
