About this example
This example is the proforma invoice an Italian olive oil mill sends a Canadian importer for one 40-foot container, priced CIF Montreal. It lists four oils by the case with HS codes, then haulage to the port, export clearance, ocean freight and cargo insurance, with VAT at zero because the goods leave the EU.
An export proforma does more work than a quote: the buyer's bank, customs broker and import permit all rely on it. So this one states the Incoterms, ports, container and country of origin, maps the route, splits payment into a 30% advance and a balance against shipping documents, gives packing and weights per product, and specifies the oil. It lists the documents that travel with the shipment, including the origin statement for the EU–Canada trade agreement, and ends with the terms of the offer and a place for both sides to sign.
Who it is for
Exporters and manufacturers who quote overseas buyers before shipment and need a proforma invoice for advance payment, import permits or a letter of credit.
