About this example

This example is the delivery note a commercial furniture dealer hands over after delivering and installing the furniture for a law firm's new office floor. One truck brought 162 cartons: sit-stand desks, task chairs, pedestals, a boardroom table, phone booths and lounge seating, all assembled and placed the same day.

A delivery note is the record both sides rely on when something goes wrong, so this one is specific. It ties the delivery to the sales order and the customer's purchase order, lists every line with ordered, delivered and back-ordered quantities and the carton count, and records the truck, the seal and the dock booking. Two chairs arrived damaged: the note says what was found, that they went back with the driver, and the choice the customer has. A floor plan shows where each item was installed, a product reference helps the person signing match items to the list, and short delivery conditions explain concealed damage, back orders, risk and title. The credit note example continues the same story.

Who it is for

Furniture dealers, distributors and installers who deliver goods to a business customer and need a signed record of what arrived, what did not, and what happens next.

Inside and how to use it

What this example contains, and how to make it yours

What's inside

  • Delivery note number, date, supplier and delivery address with the customer PO
  • A summary of the delivery: orders, items, cartons, weight and times
  • Transport and site access: truck, driver, seal, dock and freight elevator
  • 15 item lines with ordered, delivered and back-ordered quantities and cartons
  • A product reference with drawings and an installation plan by zone

How to adapt it

  • Replace the item table with the lines of your own sales order
  • Keep the carton count: it settles most delivery disputes
  • Drop the installation pages if you deliver to a dock and leave
  • Set the concealed-damage window to what your carrier allows
