About this example

This example is the quote a freight broker sends a homeware company shipping three loads from its Kansas City warehouse: a full load of 24 pallets to a distribution centre near Chicago, and two part loads to retailers in Denver and Nashville, with all-risks cargo insurance on the full value.

Freight quotes are compared line by line, and the surprises come from what is left out. This one lists every shipment with pallets, weight, US freight class and collection date, and warns that hauliers reweigh and reclass. A lane map and a table give the haulier type, transit time, delivery date and tracking for each shipment. Rates are itemised per shipment with trunking, fuel surcharge and the ancillary services requested, and a separate table lists the ancillary charges that apply only if they happen, such as waiting time or redelivery. A shipping checklist, the broker's key numbers, terms on rate validity, liability, claims and payment, and a booking block complete it.

Who it is for

Freight forwarders, 3PLs and hauliers that quote full and part loads and want to avoid disputes over fuel, ancillary charges and liability.
