About this example
This example is the invoice an independent repair shop in Columbus, Ohio, hands a customer when she picks up her 2015 Honda Odyssey: a check engine light traced to a failed ignition coil, the 105,000-mile timing belt and water pump service, and new front brake pads and rotors.
A repair invoice has to show the customer what was done to her vehicle and why, so this one is built around the repair order. The first line identifies the vehicle by year, model, VIN, plate and mileage in and out, and records when the work was authorized. Each job is its own section, with the labor on flat-rate hours, what the technician found, and every part with its part number. Shop supplies and hazardous waste disposal are listed as fees rather than hidden, and Ohio sales tax applies to the whole invoice, labor included. A multi-point inspection page records the results and the work recommended for later with estimates, and the last page covers the warranty, how to pay at pickup, the authorization and old parts, and the customer's signature.
Who it is for
Independent auto repair shops, mechanics, tire and brake shops and mobile mechanics who invoice customers for parts and labor.
